The Team
Harkin & Toth Casting is made up of a team of talented Casting Directors, associates and assistants, fronted by RTS winning and BAFTA, EMMY, BIFA, CDG and ARTIOS nominated Julie Harkin and Nathan Toth.
Julie Harkin / Casting Director
Julie left the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2000 to embark on a casting career in London. She began working in-house at the BBC before setting up her own company in 2005.
Julie is passionate about nurturing and promoting undiscovered talent, helping to launch the careers of numerous young actors. She was particularly praised for her work on Sky Atlantic’s FORTITUDE, BAFTA award winning MISFITS and THE FADES as well as C4’s critically acclaimed UTOPIA, BBC’s spell binding WAR AND PEACE and BAFTA nominated INFORMER.
Julie received a Best Casting Emmy nomination for I MAY DESTROY YOU, a BIFA nomination for BEAST (Jessie Buckley & Johnny Flynn) and a C21 nomination for her work on WAR AND PEACE. She also won a C21 award in 2021 for I MAY DESTROY YOU.
Julie is from Derry, Ireland.
Nathan Toth / Casting Director
Nathan’s indirect route into the casting world has provided him with a wide knowledge of creative talent outside the traditional pool of trained actors.
Nathan moved to London from Carlisle in 2008 and started his professional career in the fashion industry, working at several fashion publications before joining Storm Model Management in 2011 as an agent. He made the switch into the entertainment industry in 2015 when he began working at the Donmar Warehouse in the casting department. Nathan started working alongside Julie Harkin in 2017, and Harkin & Toth Casting was created in 2022.
Lucy Kate Smith / Casting Associate
Lucy moved to London from Rochdale in 2013 to study English Literature at King’s College London. She then went on to start a career in play and performance publishing at independent publishing house, Oberon Books. Having been quickly promoted to Commissioning Editor, she decided that the she wanted to work more closely with actors and moved over into casting in 2018.
Lucy brings 5 years’ worth of casting experience to her role as associate at Harkin Toth Casting, making her an invaluable member of the team. She is passionate about diversity and inclusion on screen, and places much importance on nurturing talent from underrepresented backgrounds who may not necessarily have a prior connection to the industry.
Oliver Scullion / Casting Associate
Oliver moved to London from Tyrone, Ireland, in 2011 to train as an actor at Italia Conti. 10 years and a pandemic later, he side stepped into casting in 2021 when he began working as Casting Assistant for Stuart Burt Casting. After working on a number of award-winning West End shows such as ‘Cabaret’ at the Kit Kat Club and ‘The Seagull’ for the Jamie Lloyd Company, he received a co-casting director credit on ‘Sylvia’ at the Old Vic.
With a want to explore his love for TV and film casting, Oliver joined Harkin & Toth in 2023 to further develop his skills. He is passionate about equal representation on-screen that reflects the world we live in and amplifying underrepresented voices, particularly working class and LGBTQIA+ artists.
Ollie Bazeley / Casting Assistant
Ollie moved to London in 2012 from his hometown of Portsmouth to study French and German at King’s College London. His entry into the industry was as an agent’s assistant at Curtis Brown, where he worked for nearly 3 years, before making the move over to casting, where he could continue to develop his love for TV and film, and nurturing talent.
Ollie has a passion for amplifying voices that have historically not been the most prevalent on screen, and TV and film that focusses on telling stories with a social message.
Alisha Bappoo / Casting Assistant
Born and raised in London, Alisha got her start in the industry completing two apprenticeships and working at Troika Talent for 3 and a half years before moving over to casting. This allowed Alisha to develop an eye for talent and a love for TV and Film. Her transferable skills from this job has made her an excellent member of the Harkin and Toth Casting Team. She has a passion for diversity and inclusion, and the importance of representation on screen.
